At the roots of dreams: from Babylon to Granada Roula Safar

At the roots of dreams:
From Babylon to Granada Roula Safar Mezzo-soprano, guitar and percussion

The programme presented by mezzo-soprano Roula SAFAR, with her guitar and percussion, builds bridges between the original state of languages and their evolution, between the sacred and poetry, and between baroque, traditional and contemporary music. This programme, from Babylon to Granada, via Lebanon, will present several facets of the Mediterranean and will feature sacred and secular songs, in languages that have disappeared such as Sumero-Akkadian, Phoenician, Ugaritic, Egyptian, Ancient Greek and Ancient Aramaic, as well as those that are closer to home and contemporary.

Most of the songs in this programme have been arranged and sometimes harmonised by Roula Safar for her instruments. Some texts in ancient languages and poems by Lebanese poets such as Andrée CHEDID, Vénus KHOURY-GHATA, Georges SCHEHADE and Mounir ABOU-DEBS, have been set to music by her.
